Stéphany Le Rhun has been appointed Global Sustainability Lead for award-winning engineering design practice Eckersley O’Callaghan. Stéphany joined the London office in 2014 to work in the Facade Group, before moving to the Paris office in 2017. At Eckersley O’Callaghan she has contributed to the development of sustainability tools and studies, and she has deepened strategies regarding low carbon solutions, circular economy, bio-based materials and resilience.

In her new role, Stéphany will work closely with structures, facades and glass experts across Eckersley O’Callaghan’s 10 offices around the globe to consolidate and build upon the company’s pioneering work in sustainable design.

James O’Callaghan, Founding Director

“Efficient engineering design is embedded in the values of Eckersley O’Callaghan, and we believe this is fundamental to sustainable construction. We recognise the need to build on this approach in tackling climate change by using more sophisticated tracking tools, promoting sustainable materials, and driving circularity and re-use in our workflow. Our projects, such as La Reference, a school in Haiti, have already been recognised as leading sustainable design and construction through the Institution of Structural Engineers Awards.

Stéphany’s appointment as Eckersley O’Callaghan’s Global Sustainability Lead will further contribute to this work as we continue to collaborate with our clients, fellow professionals and research institutions to address sustainability issues, driving down carbon within the construction sector.

Stéphany Le Rhun, Global Sustainability Lead

“Having worked at Eckersley O’Callaghan for seven years, I have been able to recognise the strong determination of the practice to tackle the urgent challenges of climate change. We are aware of the great difficulties we need to overcome, and the huge changes we need to make, and we are determined to tackle these issues and have a meaningful impact on the industry. Our role as engineers has become far more complex as we look to integrate a systemic approach to the climate crisis. With each new design that we develop, we strive to learn from our experiences and improve upon them, pushing ourselves to achieve ever more sustainable outcomes.

In this new appointment, I am excited to work alongside our engineers, supporting and stimulating them on our approach in this area.”
