Renovation of a six storey, 20,050m² development in Montreuil.

The project consists of two wings, with a central aisle forming a commercial passage. The scheme involves repairing and conserving the existing facade, renovating the upper two floors, and installing new a facade at ground level, revitalising the building’s aesthetic and improving its energy performance.

The project presents a unique challenge in balancing conservation and modernisation. Eckersley O’Callaghan carried out a comprehensive audit of the existing facade systems to evaluate their structural and thermal performance. This detailed analysis was crucial for identifying and addressing the building envelope’s pathologies, while ensuring the conservation of much of the original facade. The preservation of these elements aligns with our aspiration to propose a low carbon refurbishment scheme while also allowing maintaining the building’s architectural integrity.

Alongside the repairs, the renovation introduces upgraded facades for the upper floors, significantly improving thermal efficiency. The ground floor facade has been entirely redesigned to enhance the commercial passage, boosting both the functionality and visual appeal of the development. Throughout all project stages Eckersley O’Callaghan provided an integrated design approach, leading the project from concept through to completion. This careful renovation sets a benchmark in facade engineering, combining sustainability with innovative design solutions.
